The Comedian

A poem

Image by Atharva Tulsi, via Unsplash

Isolated self, the solipsism nothing new,

Claim not to believe, but when the truth is told, I do,

Piano keys striking like the rain on the window,

Pictures of my father, often wonder where he did go,

An old friend passing by, a smile and then moving on,

Drunk man knocking between murmurs, complaining about money gone,

Trees decay — deep blackened holes lay idle in the tarmac,

Howls of a dog revive the memories, come crawling back,

Self-deprecating thoughts always invading when unwanted,

Inferno inside and all I do is prolong it,

Writing notes just to provoke it,

Shell-less egg lays with no yolk in,

Stand-up with no joke in,

I pray to God I’m joking,

Pray it’s all only an act,

So I can stop all of acrobats

Forget pain and relax.

This poem is an edited version of an original from my debut poetry collection, Portrait of a City on Fire, which is currently available on Amazon worldwide via Impspired Publishing.
