What is Happening in the New Duggar Scandal?

Does anyone remember 19 Kids and Counting? It followed the lives of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, a conservative Christian couple who had a large family of nineteen kids. The show was called 17 Kids and Counting, and the name changed twice as two more children were added. The show portrayed a life with strong religious beliefs and wholesome family values.

TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting and replaced it with a new show, Counting On, focusing on some of the older children and their families.

It’s their apparent Quiverfull beliefs and adherence to the teachings of Bill Gothard that make them magnets to controversy. The idea that the husband and father is, next to God, the ultimate authority in the family, just doesn't fit well in today’s society. Neither does the idea that a woman should be subservient to her husband, meet his needs in the bedroom whenever he wants whether she feels like it or not, and basically pop out as many babies as she can and stay home to raise the children. Neither does the idea that if a man has lustful thoughts about a woman or acts upon those thoughts, it must be the woman’s fault for being less than modest.
