Modify SGA in Autonomous Database

The System Global Area (SGA) is a group of shared memory structures, known as SGA components, that contain data and control information for one Oracle Database instance. The SGA is shared by all server and background processes. All my Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) friends understand the importance of SGA.

This article is focused on Autonomous Database and applicable to those who are taking advantage of Autonomous Database (warehouse or transaction) and need to modify System Global Area (SGA) size in Autonomous database (ADB).

With that, let us start checking current SGA size.

Log in to OCI Console, go to Autonomous Database under Oracle Database (from the menu), click on Autonomous Database (you provisioned earlier).

Click Database Actions and provide credentials for ADMIN user to check the current SGA size.

Click SQL to open SQL Developer Web.

The SGA value is proportionate to OCPU allocated to Autonomous Database. You can scale up and down OCPU and Storage on the Oracle Autonomous Database. When you scale up the OCPU, the SGA parameter also scales up. Let us see in action. The current OCPU size for the Autonomous DB is 1 OCPU.

To scale up the OCPU, go to More Actions >> Manual Scaling
