First year seminar is a class that I truly believe Wayne State University should make all of their students take for many reasons. This class changed my approach towards classes and school as a whole. Seminar changed my study habits drastically and also changed my work ethic so I am more efficient while studying and doing my homework. The more I learned in this class the better I found myself doing in my classes.

Before this class I lacked many strategies and skills such as time management and study skills. I found that before this class I had my biggest problems with these two skills and I also found them to be the most important skills to have for school. Throughout the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a learner. I learned that I have an endless supply of potential, along with my peers, if I apply myself to the max. This is probably the best thing I learned about myself because it motivates me to want to become a successful person in the future.

Throughout my life I have come across many obstacles that impacted my academics. Some of these obstacles were hockey and other extracurricular activities I was involved in. Eventually I had to take responsibility and battle these obstacles so I could overcome them. I have addressed these challenges by figuring out different ways to manage my time and using different ways to study. There would be weeks where I only got 7 hours of sleep throughout the course of 5 days when the recommendation is 8 hours per night. A couple of strategies I think I need to fix are falling asleep at a normal time rather than after 2 AM every day and start studying earlier than two nights before an exam. I plan on fixing these problems by not taking naps between classes and instead doing my homework during that time so I can go to sleep earlier. All in all First Year Seminar was an amazing experience and a class that has helped me a lot throughout the course of this first semester.
